Bobbin Lace Lamp is made from woven glass fibre using a bobbin lace procedure and has a dual function; it is both light shade and light bulb. Use of the traditional bobbin lace technique causes the glass fibres to ïsnapÍ at the junctions. Small breakages occur at these points, literally allowing light to escape. The many junctions serve to create a facetted light source. Niels van Eijk has used the characteristics of his material in a truly innovative way. By literally forcing these light threads to act as raw material for traditional bobbin lace weaving, the typical qualities of both lace and glass fibre have been preserved and exploited. With very few ingredients, a maximum effect has been achieved. The result is equally elegant as it is bewitching.
